The Wavegarden Cove wave generator is a unique, modular technology that was developed in-house. Each module moves a panel that is driven by an electro-mechanical system, causing the water particles to move in a similar manner to ocean waves. Variations in the sequential movement of the panels change the type and size of the wave.

The Wavegarden Cove is the most sustainable and efficient artificial wave generator in the world, consuming 10-times less energy than any other system. In a busy surf park that produces between 1-2 million waves per year, the technology can save operators between €2-3M per year (based on an average electricity price of €0.15 per kWh).
We have reduced the energy consumption of waves to obtain average figures between 0.3 – 1 kWh per wave, depending on their size and power. In normal operation, the Wavegarden Cove machine, water treatment system and other systems (lighting, cooling, sensors, etc.) consume c. 455 kWh per 1hr session. Consumption drops to 325 kWh if these are not included.
The wave generating modules are powered by IE3 Premium energy efficient motors in accordance with IEC 60034-30:2008 and IS 12615:2011 standards. An important feature is that they recover part of the energy consumed after each wave is generated.
A new proprietary Energy Management System (EMS) is currently being developed that reduces peak demand by 75% and opens the door to self-sufficiency in our surf parks. This system will work with renewable energies, such as solar. With 2,500 m2 of solar panels, the annual energy consumption of Wavegarden Cove wave generator can be reduced by 50%, and can be amortized in less than 4 years.
