DSRT Surf is slated to be the first Wavegarden Cove surf park built in the United States of America after plans were unanimously approved by the City of Palm Desert in the Coachella Valley. Wavegarden´s technology will comprise a 52-module wave generator and a fully integrated surfing lagoon.
Good news for Japan, the Wavegarden Cove technology will soon arrive in the country. Wavegarden announced the new alliance in this Asian territory, working with promoter JPF. Both companies have set themselves the challenge of developing up to 7 projects in different regions of Japan in the next 7 years.
In a surf park industry first, a detailed study into the energy efficiency of Wavegarden's electromechanical system vs. pneumatic technology has been released to the public. The study concludes that the Wavegarden system requires approximately 10 times less energy than a pneumatic system on a like-for-like basis.

For the first time in the history of mainland Europe it is possible to surf world-class waves in the Swiss Alps year long, thanks to the new surfing facility developed in Sion, just 1 hour from Lausanne. The Alaïa Bay project is especially important for Wavegarden as it fulfils the vision of bringing waves and the sport of surfing to places without access to the ocean.
Ahead of the official opening in May some of the world’s best surfers tested out the waves at Alaïa Bay in the Swiss Alps. Hawaii’s Zeke Lau (Hawaii), Aritz Aranburu (Basque Country), Maud Le Car (France) and some other European pros surfed Wavegarden’s 20-wave menu under the snow-capped mountains, 500 metres above sea level.
Alaïa Bay in Sion, Switzerland will begin filling its 8.500m2 Wavegarden Cove surfing lagoon in January and has confirmed the pre opening for April. After 12 months of construction, it is finally possible to dream of surfing in Switzerland on ocean-like waves – the realisation of a daring project launched in 2016.

Four Australian pro surfers - Stu Kennedy, Connor O'Leary, Mitch Crews and Jackson Baker - recently trialled night surfing at Wavegarden's demo center in north Spain. Flood lights lit up the Wavegarden Cove like a sports arena, allowing the Australians to surf and train from sunset to late into the night, a feat not easy to achieve in the ocean.
The Wavegarden Cove has been tested and approved by many of the world’s top ranked surfers, although its versatility extends well beyond making great waves for the elite. Illustrating this point a “Family Surf Session” was organised at Wavegarden’s R&D demo center with several families with varying degrees of experience. The emphasis was on fun, learning, and participation - and less on high performance.
