Our versatile technology is optimally adapted to the needs and site conditions of our customers. The Wavegarden Cove comes in different models that differ depending on the size and design of the lagoon, which directly influence the length, frequency and speed of the waves. Each of these models is scalable and has a proven financial return.
The size and shape of the lagoon, along with the number of modules in the generator, are just some of the key features of the technology that can be customized to suit the available space.
The length of the wave is attributed to the number of modules. Even in small facilities, the surfing experience can last for more than 15 seconds, much longer than the vast majority of ocean waves. In lagoons with more modules, the wave length can exceed 30 seconds.
Lagoon designs can be adapted to any geometry, although the diamond-shaped model has proven to be the most cost-effective option, offering the greatest number and variety of quality waves per hour in the smallest space possible.
We ensure the largest number of waves in the smallest possible footprint. At Alaïa Bay in Switzerland, for instance, it is possible to generate between 300 and 600 waves/hour in 8,000 m2.

All the mentioned designs can be made with or without Bays (beginner surfing areas located at the end of the lagoon), although if enough space is available, based on the financial viability it is recommended to include them. However, in both cases, the profitability of the installation has proven to be high. According to our historical data, our facilities open to the public can receive up to 200,000 visitors a year.
The dimensions of the beginner zones are determined by their surfability. Only the Wavegarden Cove technology can guarantee waves long enough without strong currents.
Both the bathymetry and the innovative surf lagoon shape of a Wavegarden Cove are optimized to reduce currents in all the different zones of the lagoon. Only by controlling currents can we generate the highest quality, quantity and variety of waves and guarantee the maximum capacity of users.
Wavegarden invests enormous resources in the continuous development and improvement of their lagoon designs. For example, each project is improved based on the experience of previous projects and each project design is recreated and verified through computer simulations and 1:8 scale modelling.
Wavegarden’s efficient lagoon design and minimal water volume ensure the maximum return on investment. Wavegarden optimizes lagoon size, shape, currents and water volume to deliver the highest number of waves and surfer capacity per m2 of water area, without negatively impacting wave quality.
Another important aspect of the Wavegarden Cove technology and water treatment system is that water losses only occur through evaporation. Water consumption therefore depends solely on the surface area of the lagoon and not on the volume of water. Our compact Wavegarden Cove has a water surface area of less than 10,000m2 and can deliver 300 to 1000 waves per hour, accommodating up to 40 surfers at the same time. Our large Wavegarden Cove has a water surface area of approximately 20,000m2 and can also deliver up to 1000 waves per hour, accommodating as many as 40 surfers and 50 beginners at the same time.
