A handful of the world ́s best surfers – including Yago Dora, Leo Fioravanti, Luke Swanson, Reef Heazlewood, Dion Agius and Victor Bernardo – have been working with Wavegarden ́s founder and CEO and his fluid dynamics team to design and refine 4 different air sections and a new barrel wave.

A world first in the surf park sector, we provide complete transparency by disclosing precise technical information – including the number of waves per hour, quality, height, ride time, speed options and energy consumption – for each wave on its diverse Wave Menu. This information allows potential surf park investors and surfers themselves to make a veritable analysis and comparison of different wave generation systems and evaluate the advantages of Wavegarden’s technology.
The majestic Swiss Alps can now claim to be part of the history of surfing. Despite the water temperature reaching near freezing (3.5ºC/38.3F), 125 brave surfers from across the globe competed in the inaugural Alaïa Open Winter Cup in Sion, Switzerland. And, much like the guarantee of perfect snow conditions in the nearby mountains, superior quality waves were assured thanks to Wavegarden´s world leading technology. Participants were quick to forget about the icy waters and focused on posting their best performances and highest scores possible.
Good news for Japan, the Wavegarden Cove technology will soon arrive in the country. Wavegarden announced the new alliance in this Asian territory, working with promoter JPF. Both companies have set themselves the challenge of developing up to 7 projects in different regions of Japan in the next 7 years.
For the first time in the history of mainland Europe it is possible to surf world-class waves in the Swiss Alps year long, thanks to the new surfing facility developed in Sion, just 1 hour from Lausanne. The aim of its founder, Adam Bonvin, a young entrepreneur only 25 years old, is to bring this healthy and fun sport along with the beach lifestyle, closer to Swiss families and surfing lovers. It also aims to offer professional surfers a place to train and companies a venue to hold alternative corporate events. The pre-sales success has been overwhelming, a clear indicator, in these difficult times, that outdoor leisure activities are very much sort after by everyone. The Alaïa Bay project is especially important for Wavegarden as it fulfils the vision of bringing waves and the sport of surfing to places without access to the ocean.
Ahead of the official opening in May some of the world’s best surfers tested out the waves at Alaïa Bay in the Swiss Alps. Hawaii’s Zeke Lau (Hawaii), Aritz Aranburu (Basque Country), Maud Le Car (France) and some other European pros surfed Wavegarden’s 20-wave menu under the snow-capped mountains, 500 metres above sea level.
Alaïa Bay in Sion, Switzerland will begin filling its 8.500m2 Wavegarden Cove surfing lagoon in January and has confirmed the pre opening for April. After 12 months of construction, it is finally possible to dream of surfing in Switzerland on ocean-like waves – the realisation of a daring project launched in 2016.
